The general public may not know who Atelier Bow Wow are, but they’ve been followed by architecture students and professionals closely for years. The Tokyo based architecture firm is recognized for their public and private works dealing in dense populated areas, primarily in Tokyo. They published a guidebook in 2001 called “Pet Architecture,” a term they coined for awkwardly positioned and built buildings that occupy “left over spaces” in Tokyo. Guggenheim recently announced a major project called the BMW Guggenheim Lab and enlisted Atelier Bow Wow to design the traveling structure. The first lab will kick off in the second half of 2011 in North America and will travel around the world for six years. Yoshiharu Tsukamoto, one half of Atelier Bow Wow will be speaking at the Great Hall at Cooper Union on Wednesday, November 3rd to discuss their latest project dealing with “architectural behaviorology.” Find out more about the BMW Guggenheim Lab in this video.
