Damien Hirst is many things to many people – an artist, a marketer, and a businessman. His body of work has fueled his lucrative empire. From his sculptures to his paintings it is difficult not to recognize his iconic style. Next year, Hirst will be able to culminate all of these roles into a major exhibition at Gagosian. All eleven galleries from around the world will be showing its version of “Damien Hirst: The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011,” simultaneously. The show will include about 300 works, acquired from museums and collectors with fewer than half for sale. Hirst is said to be working on a larger piece that will include 1 million spots, claiming it will take about nine years to complete. So of course that won’t be included in the show. The Complete Spot Paintings will be on view from January to February. (via NY Times)
