Formerly known as Heist Gallery, the art space exchanged its white walls for tomato sauce and split pea soup, reconstructing itself for its current show. Now simply known as the Eisenberg Deli & Grocery in the Lower East Side, artist Ryan Watkins-Hughes slipped his “Shopdropped” cans among the food items throughout the grocery. Hughes coined the word “shopdrop” in 2004, which he defines as an act “to covertly place merchandise on display in a store.” The cans are relabeled with Hughes’s photographs, prints and multimedia works but retains its original barcode. Yes, We Canned is currently on view till May 3. via Papermag.
