Art

Lance Armstrong is many things; 7 time Tour de France champion, cancer survivor, avid twitterer, and, at the moment, second place in the Tour de France. One thing you might not guess, though: Lance is an avid contemporary art fan and patron. Shortly after finishing the first stage of the Tour, he shared his concern for art, tweeting, “Quit shooting paintball guns at the Banksy please!” The latest in his obsession is a Hirst designed bike (which Lance tweeted, of course). The butterfly adorned Trek is intended to the be the bike to carry him across the Champs Elysees for his 8th Tour victory. Only one teaser image has been released, we’ll update as more become available. Finally, images are released.

For this past Giro d’Italia he rode bikes by Kaws, Shepard Fairey and Kenny Scharf. Nike just released Mr. Cartoon/Livestrong shoes to long lines in Tokyo, and Lance is continuing his Stages art benefit, also with Nike. Busy, busy man. Tweet him a chalk message of inspiration while he’s in the saddle via chalkbot.
