Some choose to document their travels in writing while others in photography. For Ingo Giezendanner, also known as GRRRR, his choice is in pen and paper. He painstakingly illustrates the urban environments he passes through with meticulous detail – down to the gravel in-between the train tracks. Over the summer, Giezendanner traveled by train from his home of Zurich to Baku, Azerbaijan, observing the landscape and chronicling the different locales. The Swiss Institute of Contemporary Art has invited Giezendanner to exhibit his journey, arranging the illustrations in the order in which he took his trip, starting from Switzerland and ending in Azerbeidjan. Nieves has also publish this voyage with a new book titled Baku & Back. Ingo Giezendanner’s illustrations are on view now till February 13 at the Swiss Institute.
