Just over the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito, California, resides Headlands Center for the Arts. A former structure built for the military, it has gone through a transformation and is now a center for artists in residence. The property sits on a bucolic landscape overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Every year artists in various disciplines from around the world are invited to the center to work on the grounds. Headlands is also open to the public for talks, workshops, performances, and even dinners. The public is also given the opportunity to interact with the artists and to see their works-in-progress three times a year during open studios. The non profit organization is supported by foundations, art councils, and private donors. Additional funds will come from this year’s auction scheduled to be held in June. This benefit will not only support Headlands but the artists as well. 50% of the sale price will be given to the artists.
