Key to the City by Paul Ramirez Jonas

For many years the key to the city was more about prestige than function, only awarded to the very few. On June 3rd, artist Paul Ramirez Jonas along with Creative Time will challenge this tradition with his Key to the City project. No longer will the city be giving out these keys but ordinary citizens will have the opportunity to award other individuals a key to the city for a particular deed or trait whether large or small. These keys will open doors to various places throughout the five boroughs including museums, gardens, private businesses, and a mansion. A kiosk in Times Square will be the location to give and receive one of the many keys. This project is open to the public and is free. Read more about the project at Creative Time.
