Art dealers, buyers, writers and designers are all flocking south this week to Art Basel Miami and Design Miami. For the next 5 days the city will be hosting two of the country’s largest art and design fairs along with numerous off site events to distract or inspire, depending on how you look at it. The Standard hotel is making the most of it with a book signing with Kaws, the launch of their new publishing division, Standard Press, a performance piece by Olaf Breuning, and the opening of their shop with OHWOW. Less than a mile away, the parking structure designed by Herzog & de Meuron is ready for business. Last year during its unveiling, none of the retail spaces were ready. This year, half of the available spaces have been occupied from Taschen to Shake Shack to Alchemist, “a glass box perched on the fifth floor” explains The Moment.
