"Eighties at Echo Beach"

While New York was witnessing the birth of Hip Hop in the 80’s, Newport Beach was experiencing a counter culture of its own. A small stretch of the coast in Newport was given the name “Echo Beach.” It was there that a new movement in surf was emerging that contrasted what the 70’s was recognized for. The laid back attitude had given way to a more audacious stance in appearance and the sport itself. It was the origin of neon colors that are so recognizable and synonymous with the sport today. Photographer Mike Moir was there to capture it all. Quicksilver will be releasing “Eighties at Echo Beach,” a book documenting that era with photographs from Moir, written by Jamie Brisick in the fall. Join Partners & Spade as they celebrate the new book with photographs and paraphernalia from “Echo Beach.”
