Massimo Vignelli once said that if you can design one thing, you can design everything. He or she is no longer restricted to just one discipline. If a veteran like Vignelli has the ability to do this, then the opportunity for younger designers is just as available, if not more so. A new exhibition called A Product of Design, explores an array of products that are graphic based and created by individuals with various backgrounds. Works for the show include, Geoff McFetridge, the designer and illustrator who launched the skateboard company Solitary Arts, Peter Buchanan-Smith, the art director that gave up the mouse to start an axe company, Andy Mueller, a photographer and art director who started the small clothing line, The Quiet Life. Other individuals and groups in the show include Colophon Foundry, Various Projects, Hugo & Marie, Booji, Ben Blanc Studio, and JB Lab. A Product of Design is curated by Gluekit and opens on September 17 at Scion Installation in LA.
