Charles and Ray Eames Archive

Design

This is incredibly amazing and heartbreaking at the same time. Along with the Eames Foundation, Marilyn and John Neuhart have been the gate keepers of the Eames legacy for the past 30 years. Eames Design published in 1989 by the Neuharts is one of the most important books on the legendary designers. On April 8th, Wright, the auction house based in Chicago will be hosting an Eames auction. Included in the lots is a piece of design history that is more valuable than any piece of furniture Charles and Ray designed. Up for auction will be thirty years worth of material cataloged in over 100 binders. The archive consists of “Eames House records, Eames Design records, Eames Photo collection, Eames Office graphics, Connections Exhibition records, Eames Films, Mathematica Exhibition records, and an IBM Inventory.” This insanely valuable collection is up for grabs to anyone with deep enough pockets. The estimate is set at $150,000 – $200,000. We’re also very interested in another item of a scaled model of Studio 901 painstakingly built by John Neuhart over nearly 10 years. See more, much more from the auction here. More photos after the jump. (via @grainedit)
