INTRO/NY is one of the more manageable shows to hit NYCxDESIGN. It’s organized by smallpond and designjunction, the two organizations that have brought similar showcases to Milan and London during each of their respective design festivals. This will be their second year in NY. Though substantially smaller in scale, INTRO still shares the idea of featuring unique products from an international list of designers. The 12 brands have plans to unveil new lighting, furnishings, and accessories. There will also be a retail corner from byAMT, All of a Piece, Leibal, neo-utility and tokyobike. INTRO/NY will take over Openhouse Mulberry at 201 Mulberry Street and will operate through May 15th to the 19th.

Monica Khemsurov and Jill Singer’s annual Noho Design District was one of the more popular events to surround Design Week in NYC. It was a multi location event that featured many independent and up and coming designers. Unfortunately, after four years, Noho Design made its final appearance in 2013. In it’s place Khemsurov and Singer have returned with Sight Unseen OFFSITE, a successor that captures the same spirit as Noho Design District. Instead of having the event in multiple locations, OFFSITE will head south to take over two floors in a historic Soho building. Along with an impressive list of exhibitors, highlights include:

• The launch of a new series of artist-designed tables by New York gallery Grey Area
• A presentation of Tai Ping’s new Chroma Collection of painterly handmade carpets
• Five retail pop-ups, including a ceramics shop curated by Su Wu of the blog I’m Revolting, a papier-mâché plant store by Brooklyn artists Chiaozza, an Enzo Mari furniture workshop by Pablo Alabau, and shops by housewares brand Field and everyday object purveyor Kiosk
• Presentations of new work by more than 20 of the best independent American design talents as chosen by Sight Unseen, including Fredericks & Mae, Ladies & Gentlemen Studio, Knauf & Brown, Eric Trine, The Principals, Rosie Li, DAMM Design, Studio Visibility, and more
• A Sight Unseen x Calico Wallpaper prop-styling photo booth, where visitors can style their own photo shoot using objects from the show

Sight Unseen OFFSITE will take place next week from May 16-20th at 200 Lafayette Street.

Last year’s NYCxDESIGN featured 350 events across the five boroughs. This year the celebration will capitalize on its momentum to offer even more events surrounding the big four fairs, ICFF, Frieze Art Fair, WantedDesign and Brooklyn Designs. Vitsœ will be taking part in their Noho showroom by offering respite for festival goers in the neighborhood. The Vitsœ Fruit Stand with The Gourmand is a four day event that replicates a fruit stand, albeit one that is surrounded by refined furniture and shelving. Locally sourced fruit tarts, teas, and homemade sodas will be offered to visitors along with past issues of The Gourmand. To commemorate the event a limited edition fruit-themed recipe book has been published and will be offered free to visitors. The Vitsœ Fruit Stand with The Gourmand will be open from May 16 through May 19th.

Since 2011, the Brooklyn Night Bazaar has been setting up shop temporarily in various locations in Williamsburg and downtown. This year, the night market has found a permanent location in Greenpoint. Founder Aaron Broudo has signed a one year lease for a 24,000 sq ft warehouse. Everything that made it successful the previous years will return. Music, A/V performance, food and various vendors will be on hand every Friday and Saturday night from 6pm-midnight. This year they’ve enlisted a number of media and music blogs and record labels to take over entertainment duties. BuzzFeed, (Le) Poisson Rouge, Paste Magazine, FatCat Records, Insound, and many others have all signed on to curate musical acts. Brooklyn Night Bazaar will kick off November 1st and is located at 165 Banker Street in Brooklyn.
