David Hieatt is quite the doer. Over a decade after founding a popular sports apparel, he launched a series of TED-like talks called Do Lectures. The premise is simple, people who do things can inspire the rest of us to go do things too. And so with that idea, Hieatt left his previous brand to launch a new company called Hiut Denim based in Cardigan, Wales. The town is small with a population of 4000, about 10% of it used to make jeans before all the factories closed. Tapping the rich history of Cardigan, Hiut Denim will re-employ the very same skilled workers that lost their jobs after the factories shut down. They only plan to make jeans and to make them to the best of their ability – long lasting with the highest quality. While the line will not launch until September, Hieatt and company are transparent about their progress with sporadic updates on their blog. Hiut Denim’s story is an inspiring one, read more about it here.
