“The word adventure has gotten over used. For me adventure is when everything goes wrong. That’s when the adventure starts.” So says Yvon Chouinard, the founder of the climbing and outdoor clothing company, Patagonia. In 1968 he and friends including Doug Tompkins founder of The North Face, took off on a 10,000 mile road trip from Ventura California to Patagonia with the intention of climbing Mount Fitzroy. That adventure would set in motion for what the two would later do in life, being advocates and champions for the environment. Inspired by his hero, Jeff Johnson would attempt a similar journey in 2008 and document the entire experience. 180 Degree South is a modern take on what Chouinard and Tompkins first achieved. Sailing down the Pacific, discovering the beauty in nature and finding oneself. It’s a film that will inspire you to embrace and cherish the outdoors.
