As conventional as it may seem, asking an individual what inspires them is a question we continue to ask. It’s our inherent desire to learn more from that person in hopes of acquiring a bit of their knowledge. However, in some cases we don’t even have to ask, we should be so lucky as to have people we admire be so forthcoming. Such is the case with Mike Mills. He has been keeping a journal since January, posting things that influenced the development of Beginners. Taking events from his personal life as the basis of the script, Mills created a work of fiction with the help from source materials. He explains, “in this blog you’ll find entries on the films, and books, and music, and graphics, and photography, and people, and moments, and events, some years, some jokes, some dogs and some rivers that fed my writing of Beginners.” Beginners opens June 3rd.
