Rob Upritchard from New Zealand is a jewelry designer that prefers to use one of the most common stones, granite, over precious ones, sourcing them while hiking through the country’s beaches, forests, and river beds. His latest series of necklaces was exhibited over the summer in a show simply called Rock Jewelry. The stones were sculpted into pick axes and shovels and were then hung on modest strands of “bold, colorful ropes or simple black strings.” They represent a ruggedness that is equivalent to the granite yet are refined and beautifully shaped. Upritchard’s jewelry is currently available in four locations include B Store in London where his exhibit took place.
