Did someone say LASERS?! Count us in… Yesterday The Scout took a field trip up to the MIT FabLab located in the South Bronx. FabLab is short for Fabrication Laboratory, and is a portable facility dedicated to bringing together technology, design, sustainability and community. The lab houses a hi tech laser-etching printer and Shop Bot router. Both machines can be used to create products from reclaimed and recyclable materials. Jon Santiago coordinates the FabLab through MIT and the Sustainable South Bronx organization, and ensures the facility is a learning environment for people in the community. He hopes to use it as a model for creating more local Green Collar jobs in the South Bronx and beyond.
