There’s only so much you can keep track of. Just last week Rupert Murdoch announced he was investing in an iPad only newspaper titled “The Daily,” employing about 100 writers to work on the publication. Launch date? Unknown. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Richard Branson steals his thunder by launching his own iPad only magazine titled “Project,” available starting today. Like many other magazine apps, it’s free, with each issue priced at $2.99 a pop. The design of the issue is a mishmash of tech and print and a bit chaotic, caused by the liberal use of fonts and a dizzying array of color bars and squares that resemble pixels and cmyk indicators on the edges of a proof. As far as the content goes, it is stocked with interviews and articles from cultural to political with a mix of light interactivity, like the North Korean babushka nesting dolls and several video content. We’ll have to play with it a bit more to come to a verdict. If you’re uncertain whether to purchase an issue, you can get a taste of the magazine from their blog.
