It’s only a matter of time before the Hudson Valley and Catskills become an alternative to the Hamptons and Montauk for New Yorkers looking for an escape. Though it lacks the coastline, the scenic view more than makes up for it. In the past several years, hospitality groups and enterprising individuals have been opening restaurants and hotels to lure urbanites to the north. Most recently the Catsills saw the opening of The Graham & Co. and soon Beacon will have its turn with The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls. The first phase of the restaurant is complete and open to the public while the second phase is underway with the construction of the hotel. The conversion of the 200 year old mill was designed by Rockwell Group implementing sustainable materials that were part of the original structure. Even the hydroelectric plant will be restored – eventually providing about 60% of the building’s energy. With the hotel slated to open in 2013 it will give Manhattanites more of a reason to explore the area beyond Dia:Beacon.
