The glamour of air travel from the 50s and 60s has long disappeared. Jet Blue and several other businesses are attempting to bring it back by reopening Eero Saarinen’s Terminal 5 in late September. However most of their efforts will not be in Saarinen’s structure, rather it will be in the extension built behind the iconic building. The 635,000-square-foot facility will be occupied by restaurants consulted by some of New York’s finest chefs from Buddakan, Balthazar, Pastis, and Tia Pol. Not to be outdone in the retail division, Muji will open its third store in New York in the terminal. New York Times’s articles from a couple of weeks ago have more detail on the terminal’s endeavors.
