Perfect for a group or an interactive date, this California-based chain restaurant is a far cry from Benihana. Korean cook-your-own barbecue gets a Japanese twist; choose from assorted meat, seafood and vegetable dishes, then grill them yourself at your table and enjoy with assorted dipping sauces. If you’re not in the mood to cook, there are plenty of prepared meals – bibimbap, ramen, soups and salads – to keep you satisfied. The setting, complete with paper lanterns and sleek tables, is surprisingly serene and elegant for a restaurant that’s mere steps away from the craziness of St. Mark’s Place.
