Sweetu Patel started C’H’C’M’ (Clinton Hill Classic Menswear) as an online shop from his Brooklyn apartment. The opportunity to open a brick-and-mortar store came by chance when a friend of his offered to split her studio space in Manhattan. Since 2010, C’H’C’M’ has been operating its store on the quiet cobblestone block of Bond Street. Take a few steps below and you will find yourself in a minimal and clean space. Though Patel’s past experience in retail and merchandising is rooted in furniture and interior design it has nonetheless helped him to create a point of view that sets him apart from other men’s store. The shop carries a mix of young and old labels, some with heritage dating back to the 19th century. U.S., Europe, and Japan are well represented with labels that include, Levi’s Made & Crafted, The Hill-Side, Individualized Shirts, Sunspel, Sunny Sports, and a list of labels you may not be familiar with but Patel will be happy to tell you about. His appreciation for manufacturing is found in many of the brands he carries. Striking a conversation with Patel you will appreciate the thought that went into everything that he carries because he believes in everything he carries and that’s the beauty of shopping at a store like C’H’C’M’. We continue our What’s In Store series by asking Sweetu Patel a few questions on what to expect this season.
What brands are you carrying for the new season?
Same as before but adding some new ones including the following:
Arpenteur (France)
Stone Island (Italy)
Drumohr (Italy)
Twins (France)
Private White VC (England)
Anonymous Ism (Japan)
Reigning Champ (Canada)
What are some of your best sellers?
Uniform Wares watches – never in stock
Regent Belts
Individualized Shirts
Sunspel T-Shirts & Underwear
You mentioned that you admire labels that manufactures their own clothing. Can you speak more about that?
I just like the fact that companies and factories with their roots in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s are still manufacturing garments today that stand up both functionally and stylistically and are probably still going to be around in a few hundred years.
What’s the concept of your store?
A nice clothing store where you can find all the best items.
What are you currently listening to? What’s on heavy rotation at the store?
At the moment there is a mixture of music playing old and new – lots of Philadelphia Soul and also stuff like ‘Thundercat’ and ‘Gang Colors’.
Visit C’H’C’M’ at 2 Bond Street.
Open Daily: 11am to 7pm
