Toshiki Okazaki moved his beloved design bookshop, Zakka, over the East River in 2007 after many years in Manhattan. Settling into a much larger space in DUMBO, Okazaki was able to transfer the former shop’s aesthetic to fit in with the industrial materials of the current space. Metal pipes and glass dividers fit in well with the cement floors and walls. Zakka currently stocks hard to find design books from Japan and Europe, collectible vinyl figures from artists, an assortment of imported toys, mostly from Japan, and independently designed t-shirts. He’s even added a private library that’s only available to members.
