Read MoreShop owner David Alperin is rooted in his family’s heritage. Being a 4th generation Brooklyn Heights man, he decided to open his new concept shop in the neighborhood and gave it the name of a crustacean that is popular among locals in Galicia, Spain, where his family is from. Goose Barnacle is not just a gallery or a store, but a mixture of both. It is dynamic to what is currently on display, whether it be art or clothing. The 700 sq foot space is open and sparse, hosting biannual art openings in the Fall and Spring to coincide with the seasons in the clothing line and accessories he carries. With that considered, nothing is built into the store, except for a telephone booth that was once a part of The Long Island Bar, owned by his grandmother. It’s been re-purposed as a display case to showcase some of the line he currently stocks. Though his store specializes in menswear, which include Taylor Supply, Svensson, Fred Perry, Crate, Strong Boalt, Naked and Famous, Sebago, and Wigwam socks, he also carries a line of jewelry from Marissa Alperin, designed and operated by Alperin’s sister.
